If you like going to destination weddings in Maine, and if you’re in the real estate market, there’s an opportunity in Blue Hill to make them come to you.

It comes with 11 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 9 fireplaces, 22 acres, a barn and a swimming pool.

These items – along with furnishings and views of the local harbor and the town’s namesake – will go to the highest bidder when the John Peters Estate goes up for auction on Aug. 29. The estate straddles a peninsula that juts into the protected local harbor.

The main house on the property was built in 1815, expanded in the 1920s, and has been renovated since. The estate has functioned as an inn but, more recently, has been marketed as high-end event space for weddings, family reunions, or other type of gatherings. Google “John Peters Estate” and you will get a robust list of professional wedding photographer websites to browse through.

The estate is named after an early wealthy resident who, according to a Wikipedia page on the property, served as town clerk, was a land surveyor and agent, operated a local grist mill and shipyard, and was a local school trustee.

According to The New York Times, the main house and 5.5 acres is sits on were being offered for sale in 2009 for $2.45 million. The assessed value of the property, used for determining its local tax bill, is $2,946,000. The town’s tax bill for the estate in 2014 was $25,923, according to a detailed description of the property posted at the DeCaro Luxury Auctions website.

Whether or not that fits your budget, you can get a close-up look at the property at Open Houses from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this coming Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 22 & 23) and again on Friday, Aug. 28, which is the day before the auction.

More info can be found at the estate’s property rental website.
